South Beach Diet consists of three stages. The first phase lasts two weeks, the duration of the second individual. But the third continues throughout the rest of life. South Beach Low Carb Diet is similar to the Atkins diet.
South Beach Diet was created to reduce cholesterol levels in people with cardiovascular disease and diabetes. The diet is based on the use of complex carbohydrates, unsaturated fats and proteins. It almost completely eliminates simple carbohydrates.
The first phase of South Beach Diet

Spices – all the spices, which have no sugar, extracts, lemon juice, horseradish, pepper goodies – (no more than 75 calories a day!): Cocoa powder, sugar-free candy, caramel candies, sugar-free gelatin.
The second phase of South Beach Diet
In the second stage you can eat everything.
Products of the second phase
Fruits – apricots, apples, blueberries, cherries, grapes, kiwis, pears, oranges, plums, grapefruit, strawberries
Vegetables – green peas, potatoes
Dairy products – soy milk, skimmed milk, nonfat yogurt
Carbohydrates – whole wheat, bread, oatmeal, pasta whole grains, rye bread tin.
Delicious – low-fat pudding, dark chocolate, red wine.
The third phase of South Beach Diet
The third stage of the diet should last a lifetime.

The first phase
Breakfast: a glass of tomato juice, scrambled eggs with herbs and mushrooms, two slices of lean ham, a cup of tea or coffee with low-fat milk and sweeteners.
Second breakfast: a slice of nonfat cheese.
Dinner: vegetable salad with slices of boiled or baked chicken breast with olive oil and herbs.
Afternoon snack: 100 g low-fat cottage cheese and chopped cucumber and tomato.
Dinner: every piece of fish with baked vegetables, green salad with a little balsamic vinegar. For dessert – serving unsweetened citrus mousse or jelly.
The second phase
Breakfast: a cup of fresh berries, a portion of oatmeal in skim milk with a teaspoon of finely chopped nuts.
Second breakfast: boiled egg.
Lunch: turkey breast with vegetables and herbs, baked in the oven.
Afternoon snack: fresh fruit with low-fat processed cheeses.
Dinner: salmon, baked with spinach, stewed vegetables, fresh vegetable salad with olive oil or vinegar. For dessert – chocolate mousse with berries or low-fat cream.
The third phase
Breakfast: half a grapefruit, an omelet of egg whites, slice of grain bread. A cup of tea or coffee with low-fat milk.
Lunch: piece of meatloaf or baked ham, fresh apple.
Dinner: grilled chicken with couscous or buckwheat, sauteed spinach or asparagus, salad of fresh vegetables with olive oil. For dessert – fresh berries with vanilla yogurt.
